PROCEDURE

0.1 mmol of Indium Acetate and 0.1 mmol of Copper (I) Iodide were combined with 1.0 ml of Dodecanethiol and 8.0 ml of Octadecene in a 50 ml three neck flask.

The mixture was heated to 50 degrees Celsius under a nitrogen atmosphere to limit the amount of oxygen and allow the solution to be magnetically stirred for one hour.

The reaction temperature was then increased to 220 degrees Celsius for 15-290 min.

The colour of the reaction mixture turned from colourless to yellow, orange, red then dark red.

Thereafter, the reaction was stopped.
