Characterisation

The samples, with and without the ligands attached, were sent for TEM analysis.

As follows are the images:

 

QUANTUM DOTS WITHOUT LIGAND

Spherical with

Diameters ranging from 2-10 nm

  • Physical properties of our samples correspond with literature

  • Small size of quantum dots results in high surface area to volume ratio which supports high fluorescence efficiency

 

QUANTUM DOTS WITH LIGAND

 

  • It was observed that the Quantum Dots tended to agglutinate when ligands were attached to them

  • This was possibly due to the fact that the ligands form hydrogen bonds and dipole interactions with one another
